They could be in our solar system

Yes there is, there has to be. There are so many planets in so many galaxies, the odds are just too great for there not to be life out there. We or told that no planet other than this one will sustain life, well that is just not true. There is life here on this little planet in places that life should not exist. We have been told for years that it does not exist. But as man explores the globe, we are finding life forms on this planet that no one would have ever thought of.

THEY COME IN PEACE

Is there life out there in the universe?

We now know some of the environs of the planets in our own solar system, this is due to such things as the Pioneer Venus Project (Pictured right). During its voyage it was found that Venus has rain that is sulphuric acid. We also know that Jupiter is a superheated Gas Giant. It was always believed that nothing could live in such an environment. Oh how wrong we were. If we have been so wrong about this, what other environs could be habitable for life other than our own? How many different ways could life evolve to suit its surroundings. The outcome of such environs on a developing species could contrive to make any shape or form. Is it beyond belief for the human race, that life should, no, does exist on other planets? If we can not land there, how would we ever be sure. We can be sure because of what life we have here on our own little planet called Earth.

Lets talk about bacteria shall we. This is the starting block of any life, any where. It is from this that the Human race arose. Are we to say that another species can not arise from another base bacteria?

In 1998, an American microbiologist worked out that the number of bacteria on Earth at that time was five million trillion trillion. This is the number 5 followed by thirty zeroes – an impossible number to comprehend. Fortunately, all of these bacteria are grouped into a much smaller number of types.

Taking a big overview of bacteria, there are two main groups, the bacteria and the cyanobacteria. Bacteria include all of the commonly known species such as Escherichia coli (E. coli bacteria), Salmonella bacteria, Staphylococci, Listeria and the Clostridia. Cyanobacteria form a separate type of bacteria that are able to photosynthesise – they can also be called blue-green algae.

Cyanobacteria still exist in large numbers today but their importance in the development of life on Earth is due to their existence here millions of years ago. Cyanobacteria were very successful and grew everywhere. Their ability to photosynthesise created all the oxygen that is in our atmosphere today. Most living organisms (but not all) today depend on oxygen and without cyanobacteria, it is very unlikely that this life would have evolved but not impossible.
