And what I thought of them

I am not giving my age away here but as a child I remember the excitement of the family gathering around a 8mm projector aimed at a white screen on a stand in our living room. Before you ask, yes, we did have a TV, a colour one at that. But it was the whole setup that just gave the 8mm that something more. I used to love the cinema, the crowd gathering with anticipation, the smell of the popcorn, all added to the thrill of the show. Then something changed. Age. Mine that is, I got older and the old I got the less I enjoyed it. People talking, even on mobile phones, through the film. Crisp packets rustling, food being crunched. People getting up and walking in front of you because they forgot to have a wee before they sat down. Stay at home you irritating looser's. Well they will not, so I have too. But what do I care, with full surround sound, peace and quiet and a pause button if I really need it. I will cover the old and the new.

Some of the old ones are the best ones

I love film, the momentary escape from reality

Most films I find are just a bit of escapism and nothing more. Others I find to be visually intriguing. Some open your mind to other possibilities Then there are the rare few that I will watch over and over. Sometimes I find the story line to be spellbinding. Some are visually stunning. Some just open up new realms of sound and light. I love a ground breaker, a film that is different from the norm. Films like the Matrix, with a different view of the world we live in, challenging what has been done before, both visually and mentally. Films like Blade Runner, giving us a glimpse of what our world could be, from the language, over crowding, yet at ground level nothing really changes at all. Snow White, a new why of making a film, old to us now but at the time was ground breaking. The same can be said for Avatar, a truly amazing film. Jurassic Park, the place should shake when the Tyrannosaurs Rex is coming to get you. Sometimes it can be the stars that make the films, the script just would not make it on its own, or the script could be the best for years, put the wrong star up front and it is a flop.

Avatar.
